Before and After: From Table to Banquette

I have a love/hate relationship with banquettes (aka kitchen booth things). I love them because because of their ability to tuck into small spaces yet provide a lot of seating. I hate them because they’re built in and can’t be moved, unlike furniture. And then there’s that “what happens when the dude in the center needs to get out?” thing. “Excuse me. Pardon me. Get outta my way.” BUT, be that as it may, this table to DIY banquette is nearly perfect. Why not completely perfect? Because the bench on the right covers the window, but that’s a minor quibble, considering the outcome. And, get this, the space that used to fit 6 now fits 12, according to its owners. Take a look:

LOOKS nice, but i’d hate to be the one sliding into and out of that back corner.

Respectfully:  I hate banquet seating and benches used a dining table instead of individual chairs.  I’m a small person and fixed seating — which has to be set for the average person —  is always too far from the table to be comfortable for me.

I think the banquette seating might have worked against the half wall, but it seems a shame to block those French doors.  I would rather see movable chairs on that side.
