Honestly, if I'd have seen this coffee table at my local Goodwill, I would have passed on the shape alone. (My rule is if it isn't rectangular or round, forget it.) But it was exactly the octagonal shape that worked--and worked well--for Sheena's sectional sofa arrangement. So she plunked down a whole 12 bucks for the thing and then decided to turn it into a tufted ottoman. A light sanding, some paint, and a new upholstered top later, and this is how it looks now:
