Roundup: 10 Unexpected Things You Can Grill

by on Jul 3, 2013

Grilling season is in full swing, but if you’re tired of the same old slab of meat fare–or if you’re a vegetarian–you might not be as thrilled with the thought of firing up the coals as those Boy Meets Grill types. No worries! We’ve assembled some ideas that will surely bring out your Bobby Flay.

First is fruit. Organic Gardening gives us a list of the most grillable, which include apples, peaches, bananas and even watermelon! For a kabob-version, check out this recipe at All Recipes recipe.Fish fillet with grilled char marks topped with cilantro and chopped jalapenos.Organic Gardening

Green pepper, onions, corn–veggies are great on the grill, but have you ever tried lettuce, specifically romaine? This Grilled Caesar Salad from How Sweet It Is looks absolutely de-lish. For a vinaigrette version, check out this recipe from Patio Daddio BBQ.

Now, consider the grilled cheese sandwich. Charbroil points out–rightly so–that most grilled cheese sandwiches aren’t, in fact, grilled but fried. If you want an authentic GRILLED cheese sandwich, visit Charbroil. Although, be warned, after having one, you may never want a fried cheese sandwich ever again.

Rice on the BBQ?? Yup, if you use sushi rice, shape them into balls and follow this recipe on the Food Network. (It’s actually a video featuring the Grill Boy himself.)

I’m not sure why a perfectly good pound cake would need to be grilled, but I’m guessing after I have it grilled, it would be the fried cheese sandwich deal all over again. Visit Taste of Home to see how to make this Grilled Pound Cake with Berries.

Ice cream? ICE cream?? Yup. This recipe from Cooking.com shares the secret of how it can be done.

And, finally, cookies. Yeah, you can make those on the grill too, but Aussie Griller takes it up a notch by not only baking a very large sugar cookie on the grill but THEN turns them into cookie grills.  Do the click here to watch the video which explains all.
