We got a few of these new bulbs to try out, and we'll do a more in depth review next week. But for now, here are some interesting facts about this new technology:
It's a normal-shaped bulb.
Yep. A normal shape means a normal light distribution. Just like you're used to.
It has a 10 year limited warranty.
If it doesn't last for 10 years (based on 6 hours a day, 7 days a week), they'll replace it. Try getting that on a 60W incandescent.
It lasts 25 times longer than a standard bulb.
Normal bulb = 1000 hours. A Cree LED bulb = 25,000 hours.
It's instant on; instant full brightness.
When you flick the switch, you want the light to come on. Like, right now. You don't want it to flicker for five seconds first, like most CFLs.
What? Compact fluorescents have mercury in the ballasts? Yes! They do! Toxic mercury. In your CFLs! No fun.
Right. You probably haven't heard of them, because until now, they've made mostly commercial lighting products for big retailers, warehouses, and even the Beijing Olympic games.
Check them out at www.creebulb.com, on Facebook, and on Twitter.
