Making your own gingerbread house is a longstanding European tradition. Gingerbread is known as lebkuchen (life cake) in German because ginger preserves the cake for a longer period of time, a classic ode to all things sugar and spice.
Spatula have put together an easy to follow template and recipe based on an old family recipe from the 70's.
While their example is more natural in approach, feel free to hit the candy isle and decorate till your heart (and mouth) are content.
