Prevent Identity Theft, Invest In a Security Mailbox

by on Apr 23, 2007

The door hangs open on an orange Rusty mail box at the curb.

In an effort to prevent identity theft, we all know that we shouldn’t deposit our outgoing mail in residential mailboxes. No biggie. A quick trip to the local P.O. or collection box takes care of that problem, but what about the mail our letter carrier drops off for us? Any thief could follow her around the neighborhood, picking up a plethora of sensitive information.

A black security mailbox.

To prevent such nefarious activity, it might be time to install a security mailbox. Lowe’s and Home Depot carry reasonably priced, US Postmaster General approved locking mailboxes for 65 to 80 bucks. They might not be the prettiest mailboxes on the block, but they will make thieves think twice.
