Yarn-Bombed Ikea Dining Chairs

Yarn-Bombed Ikea Dining Chairs

Lorna Watt of Knits for Life is the bomb in the yarn-bomb arena, if you ask me. As a fairly experienced crocheter myself, I was stunned when I saw her crochet-covered Ikea Stefan dining chairs, much like the one pictured above. The fit and design of its new skin looks impeccable, and turns the humble $20 chair into a work of art. If you want to get a closer look, and you're in the area, three of the chairs are will be on display at The Etsy Show at STUDIO Gallery in San Francisco until May 27, 2012.

One has to know the time involved in crocheting and knitting before posting nasty comments. Creativity is gift that only few can claim, I find those chairs gorgeous, and 900 $ is a fair price for them considering the time taken and there unicity , well done!

The chairs are beautiful pieces of art, I would love to have them in my house.  and to those who made nasty comments: If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.  At least my mother taught me some manners.!

Emma on May 17, 2012:

I love the chairs but it's just a shame I cnt afford them :-( get idea tho xx

DIY Maven on May 11, 2012:

@Lorna...My pleasure! As a fellow crocheter, I can only imagine the work involved. Do you make the 'shell', as it were, and then close it up, or do you crochet right over/onto the chairs? If the latter, how do you balance the chairs and manipulate the hook/yarn at the same time??? Amazing!!!

Lorna at Knits for Life on May 11, 2012:

Thanks, DIY Maven, for posting my yarn bombed chairs! They were so much fun to make and it's fun to see the variety of responses they get. I have a running joke with a good friend who hates them, while others are already ordering custom colors for their wedding!

Andreja,  people should be free to express their opinions. Personally, I think they are ugly, but if someone is willing to part with $900 for them then so be it.

Tamara on May 10, 2012:

I was expecting typical yarn bombing when I clicked the link, but those are gorgeous!

Andreja on May 10, 2012:

and i really don't understand that nasty comments. if you don't like something go to different page and find something you love. if you like something it's nice to say something because is nice to read that someone like what you do. so dear Lorna, go go go!!! :D

Andreja on May 10, 2012:

Thats not very nice. I think it is whimsical. Consider it art and it might drive the $900 price tag. Besides, you dont have to own it.

Love them!!!

Arica on May 10, 2012:

I definitely would NOT pay $900. The original is so much nicer!

That is just ugly.
