Unbelievable $1000 Kitchen Makeover

by on May 4, 2012

Andrea’s kitchen looks nothing like it did when she and her family first moved into their home. A makeover was in order, but the budget was small. In this case $1,000 small. The fact that she and her husband were able to accomplish the re-do for that price tag certainly drew my attention. They did have some things going for them when they started, however. Like a bead board ceiling hidden under foam tiles, an awesome, original farmhouse sink and her father-in-law’s stash of 100 year old, reclaimed barn wood. Even with a leg up, the transformation is quite remarkable. Check it out: created at: 05/04/2012

  1. The room is actually much prettier than the photo.  What I like about this makeover is that they did the work themselves and kept to a budget by re-using the solid wood cabinets.  The ceiling is the original which took quite a bit of work to remove nails, paint, etc.  Her husband and father made the countertops out of 100 year old wood.  The floors were changed as well.  Check out her blog to see even more updates and to meet a very sweet family.

  2. I like vintage so I like this kitchen. I like white but preferably off white instead of the bright white. I clean as I go and keeping the cabinets clean, I don’t see as a problem….just an everyday wipedown of soiled areas just takes a minute. I would add more colorful accessories and I also would have made the countertops a bit lighter so the contrast wouldn’t be so strong with the white. If the paint job is done correctly, chipping should not be a problem….there are very good paint products nowadays to get good adhesion.

  3. I went and looked at the whole kitchen and I agree with Rebecca. This is a much nicer kitchen than that one photo shows. They did a wonderful job with the whole space and I love all the storage solutions. The paint on the cabinets is more of an off white and I love the white appliances which is my personal preference as well. I think they did a great job for a thousand dollars!
