DIY Green Cleaners

by on Sep 13, 2011

Green cleaning products don’t always have to come from your local “Green” grocer.  My older sister is a good example of this– she makes a lot of her cleaning solutions and is in love with the result she gets, both by way of a fresh, clean house and by saving money.  Want a few home-made cleaning recipes?   The folks at Maillardville Manor have a thing for green living- including eco-friendly and chemical-free cleaning.  They give a list of the basic cleaners and their recipes, from laundry detergent to carpet care.

For instance, this is a tried-and-true way to easily clean your microwave, a tip my mom passed on to me and Maillardville Manor passes on to you :

Microwave Cleaner: (you’ve probably heard this one before but it works amazingly well)
A bowl of warm water, with lemon slices. Put the bowl in the microwave and cook it for 1 minute. After it’s done ‘cooking’ Let it sit in the microwave for 3 more minutes, then wipe it out with a damp sponge, the steam makes it so easy to clean!!”
