Geek Chic: Make Your Own DIY Floppy Disk Planters!

by on Jul 26, 2011

Ah, yes, “ye olde floppy disk”.  If you happen to have some floating around or, per chance, were hoarding them for use as some sort of futuristic currency, it’s time to turn them into something of actual value: indoor planters.  I’m even going to go out on a limb here and say that were you to sport a few of these on your desk at work, you’d have the coolest cubicle in town!

Even if you don’t have a cubicle, you’ve got to admit that these floppy disk planters are kinda sweet.  If you’re ready and willing to show off your inner geek, Instructables user ChrysN has the DIY project for you.  All you need is:

  • Six floppy disks per planter
  • Plastic bottle or yogurt container (to act as the inside liner)
  • Plant
  • Gravel  (optional)
  • Activated charcoal (optional)
  • Glue
  • Duct Tape
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Clothespins / clips

Once you’ve located your stash of floppy disks, head on over to Instructables to see how all the parts come together!
