For whatever reason, nothing seems to make kids happier than playing with water, especially during the summer! Here’s a great DIY activity project that will a) get them outside and b) keep them there (not to mention keep them entertained for hours).
Known as a “water wall” this interactive toy is a great way to use up old containers and other miscellaneous junk while at the same time creating a stimulating outdoor activity for your kids. The good folks at Playing by the Book show us how it’s done, but first let’s see what we’ll need:
- plastic bottles and containers
- old garden hose or any kind of flexible tubing
- scrap board to use as a wall
- drill
- butterfly/wing nuts
- duct tape
From here, all you need to do is attach your containers and tubing in any kind of configuration you’d like, making sure that there are a few paths for the water to follow. For more info on how to do this (with tips and pics), check out Playing by the Book.
P.S. There is a great roundup of water walls on Let the Children Play for more inspiration!
