I attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati for a year, ran into some problems, and now I'm going to cincinnati state. Then, who knows from there, whatever I feel suit I suppose.
Painting/Illustration is/was my major. Decorating is my hobby. I really love street art, graffiti is my side project I am trying to get decent at. Flea markets, goodwills, thrift shops is where I find most my stuff that I use/rehab/paint. I'm also starting to get into painting children's wall murals.

I know Cincinnati well...I'll be curious of your thoughts comparing the two once you've been here for a while. The South Campus area, High at Chittenden, is quite different than Over the Rhine, so I'm sure you'll appreciate the new scene. Did you buy a house? If so, you can probably sell it for 3 times as much in ten years.
Bookstores: The Book Loft in German Village is the biggest, but Liberty Books on Lane has the biggest selection of magazines you'll ever see. They can also print newspapers from around the world, which isn't that useful or necessary, but its pretty awesome. There's also a cool used bookstore in Linworth in an old church, and they just built two new Half Price Books, which I know isn't nearly as cool, but I know at least one of them is hiring. (In Worthington). There's also An Open Book, which specializes in LGBT lit, but they have lots of generaly cool stuff.
Record Stores: Magnolia Thunderpussy is the best stocked...it's more like Everybody's Records (in Pleasant Ridge) than Shake-It.
Other tips: definately get you hair cut at Lucky 13, the Alive newspaper is way better than the Other Paper, the Drexel theatres get movies way later than the Esquire does, but there's alot of 2nd run theatres in the suburbs that make it worth the drive.
Cheers.

It depends on from where you're moving. If its a small town, there's lots of 'urban' benefits...but if you grew up in the city, you may be disappointed. I've lived here for two years, and have come to grips with the good and the bad.Columbus kinda feels like a giant suburb, unless you live near High St, which is like the spine of the city. And the football fans are atrocious.
From an artsy/DIY standpoint, there's an indie craft boutique, and a mid-century furniture store. There's also this thing they call "Gallery Hop" the first Saturday every month, in which all the galleries in the Short North district stay open late...but to be honest, it doesn't feel very hip when your pushing your way through soccer moms. The thrift stores are mediocre, and the 'second-hand' stores (meaning the hipster boutiques that go to the thrift stores and buy everything) are way overpriced. There's two excellent independent bookstores, and a great used bookstores. Record stores are average...lots of cds, but limited vinyl, if you're into that.
I'll be happy to answer any questions. Did you find a place to live yet?
