The 50/50 alcohol /water mix and a microfiber keep a lot of things clean. 50/50 vinegar/water works when you're concerned about the alcohol damaging something. It can clean just about anything.

Try flea markets. I've found a ton of cheap older tools that just needed a little TLC. Be careful with specialty tools; I bought a band saw that is hard to find replacement blades for.
