My retro happy place...

By veeeee

This is my happy place.

With two children, it's not always this tidy so I really enjoy these moments when it is. I love stoking up the fire, making a big bowl of popcorn and snuggling on the couch watching movies with my hubby and children. I equally love it when I have moments to myself when I can make a cup of tea and catch up on my favorite mags.

Surrounded by my thriftstore treasures, happy pops of color, cozy pillows and best of all my family this really is a place that makes me happy. :)

Thanks!

*sigh* How I loved that sofa! I bought that sofa just as it was from Craigslist as well and I ended up selling it because we needed something bigger (and it wasn't very comfy). It was a vintage beauty that folded down into a bed and luckily for me it was already professionally re-upholstered so I didn't have to do anything to it.

Sounds like you have a big job ahead of you... I wish I had some pointers, sorry!

Good luck and post some pics when you're done!

I really love the photos of your room! I have been collecting mid century pieces for a couple of years, but have not pulled together the look yet for my living room. I was wondering if you reupholstered the couch. I noticed that there's only one contiuous seat cushion, which makes yours look very cool and updated. I have a sofa very similar to yours, that I got for free from craiglist, but it needs reupholstering. I am nervous about taking on this  project because it needs a litte more than just a fabric change. I would like to change the foam and add lots of batting to  improve comfort.  Hoping to get some pointers before I start taking off the old fabric!

Wow, I really love this--it looks like something out of an interior design magazine, but without the sterile, clinical feeling I usually get. Classy AND homey, although I would personally do without the huge plant in the corner (I have a phobia of large indoor plants). Love that couch!

Thanks!

Yep, those are Ikea mirrors alright... I bought the unfinished ones and painted them the same colour as the wall. Cheap and cheerful!

As for my plants, I usually buy the low-maintenence kind. I really don't have much of a green-thumb but I sure wish I did. I try... : )

I love your use of colors!  Are those Ikea frames over your sofa?  I'm envious of your house plant ... it looks so healthy! :)  Great job

What a beautiful room! I especially love the use of color with the neutral tones. It looks so comfortable & stylish at the same time... a hard thing to manage!

I love your use of white and hints of color. I'd love to do this...if only I didn't have two cats (which I wouldn't trade for anything).

Thanks! I bought the pair at a thrift store for $12 and recovered the shades with some vintage barkcloth I had been saving.
