How To: DIY Rustic Industrial Shelves

DIY Rustic Industrial Shelves

The whole rustic industrial trend is pretty popular these days. And when the high end stores get in on the act, you know it's here to stay. Inspired by pricey Restoration Hardware shelves, Shannon and Dean set out to DIY them and save a couple thousand bucks in the process.

Their DIY-version is built from reclaimed pallet wood that they sanded and stained and metal pieces Shannon and Dean had cut for them at a local Metal Supermarket. (Who knew there was such a place?)

Not only does their blog give a very thorough list of the materials you'll need, but there's also a detailed schematic with measurements and instructions.

This furniture style is all about function and simplicity, which makes it a perfect one to DIY. See more photos and get the full how-to at aka design.

Are you a fan of the rustic industrial look? What do you think of Shannon and Dean's budget version?

@ Shannon - You're welcome. It was a great DIY!

@Suzanne - I agree, they did a great job! You can't have everything industrial or else you'd be living in an actual factory. :)

I'm too lazy to actually make this shelving myself but I do love the combination between the rustic, cottage-y look and the harsh, industrial style metal pieces :)

Thanks for sharing our project! :)

I'll never do it (because I am lazy and unfocused and intimidated) but I really love the finished product. Bravo!

Sorry, can't say I'm a fan of the 'rustic industrial' thing (but I don't like steampunk either ...). I will say they did a great job recreating the look, though.

Here's a good article on their brand revamp:

I'll be the first one to admit that I would kit out my whole house with stuff from Restoration Hardware if I had the funds, but this is just shameless haha. $2300 ?!?

I'll also have to find one of these metal supermarkets, as that sounds phenomenal.
