Give an Ugly Metal TV Tray a Modern Makeover

by on Sep 30, 2010

First of all, I absolutely love this redone metal TV tray. I’ll be honest, I snub those old sets of metal tv trays at GW or SA. I’ve never been a big fan of that whole tv tray concept. But this easy tutorial on Design Sponge has me rethinking my old mindset. Besides, tv trays are the perfect double for handy side tables at a gathering. Patterned paper and pen kept on a metal TV tray

Ashley lifted her neighbor’s lovely discarded tv tray from the trash and then turned it into a nice white canvas for her handmade stenciling. I’m amazed that she cut each flower petal out with an exacto knife. Patience is a virtue and a crafting asset. See the full tutorial here.

Here’s what you need to pull this DIY project off before your next party.

  • old tray and stand
  • sandpaper (fine grit)
  • rust primer spray paint (available at hardware stores)
  • patterned paper
  • x-acto knife and sharp blade
  • re-positionable adhesive
  • colored spray paint (you need a color for the base and one for the pattern design)
  • scrap paper and cardboard
