Make It: Quick Update for Outdated Dining Chairs

I always say it, but it really is amazing what a coat of paint can do. The color possibilities are endless and a new paint job just breaths life into anything! We’ve been needing some dining chairs for about a year now, and I found some old yellow ones at a yard sale for $3 each! Needless to say, I scooped those up and gave them some DIY lovin’!

I found six of these bad boys. (How lucky was I to find six that MATCH?!) They’re not completely trashed, just a little outdated. The frame of the chair was still sturdy and the seats were easy to pop off and reupholster! See how to update your own yard sale finds!

Before painting, make sure you wipe down each chair with a wet cloth and some soap and water. Allow to dry and then sand any loose paint away with a few sheets of sand paper. Wipe away the dust with a wet cloth and allow the chair time to completely dry. Once dry, it’s time to spray it with primer! 1-2 coats should cover it. Allow the primer to dry and spray 1-2 coats of a high gloss paint.  Let the chairs dry for 24 hours!

While the chairs are drying, cover the seat cushions with some new fabric. All you need is a staple gun and fabric scissors! I chose this somewhat loud and edgy, but still cozy fabric from IKEA. The spots are a deep Navy blue and they will look perfect on a chair cushion! Lay the cushion down over the fabric and trim several inches outside the edge. Gently fold the fabric in and one corner and staple in place with the staple gun. Continue wrapping and folding (pulling the fabric taut the whole time!) until you’ve completely each side. Secure any loose places or bubbles with an additional staple.

Once the chairs are dry, screw the seat cushions back on and you’re set!
