5 Daily Habits To Help Your Home Stay Clean

My name is Lexy and I’m a clean freak. They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. And I have one. I like things to be spotless. Problem is, I’m getting so busy with work and a new baby that I can’t keep up with keeping my house in pristine condition. I used to spend every Saturday deep-cleaning my home and now that I don’t have the time to do that, I had to build a few daily habits to help me achieve that spotless shine that I’ve been missing these last few months!

Clean as you go: Whether you’re getting ready for the day, or making dinner at the end of one, try to put things away as you use them. It’s so easy to make the kitchen look like a tornado hit when cooking. I’ve found that it’s easiest to keep the kitchen counters clean by washing dishes as you use them. Put the spices back after you’ve sprinkled them. Keep those counters clear!

Sort & toss mail: I am the queen of making piles. I used to have stacks of paper in almost every room. One by my desk. One by the front door. Some old bills just hanging out on the dining table. Sort the mail as it comes. Monthly bills don’t need to be filed away. Keep important papers like tax documents filed away in a cabinet or drawer dedicated for files as such.

Wipe splatters off the mirror: It’s impossible to brush your teeth or wash your face without getting a drop on the mirror. Okay, maybe it’s not impossible, but it certainly is tricky for me! A dirty mirror is one of the first things noticed when walking into a bathroom. After you’ve finished washing up, take ten seconds and wipe the splatters away from the mirror. Even if the bathroom isn’t spotless, it will feel clean!

Full hands in, full hands out: Years ago, I was a waitress and we were taught to always make sure our hands were full when entering and leaving the kitchen. This rule can apply to the home! Before you are heading to your kitchen or to your bedroom, take a look around the room you’re in and see if there is anything you can take with you. Saves you many useless trips!

Clear the clutter: During the day, all of the books, toys, computers, and props I use for work are just strewn across the living room floor. We use everything so frequently during the day, that I just wait until night falls to put it all back. And I make sure to put it all back. Clearing the clutter before the end of the day helps me settle down before heading off to bed. I realize that I’m able to relax better if I’m hanging out in a clutter-free zone.

  1. I can’t say that I am perfect when it comes to clutter, thank you for the tips! I am pretty good about my bathrooms, I like them to be “guest fresh” everyday. I clean the toilet every morning, spray the sink and wipe clean, do a quick wipe with a paper towel with windex on the mirror and counter. My bathroom in my bedroom gets a foam cleaner every night and in the mourning when I go into the shower I have a hand held brush and clean the walls while I wait for my conditioner for my hair to work it’s magic. 🙂
