Holiday How To: Create a Sweet Candy Wreath

"Holiday with Matthew Mead" is a "book-azine" offering inspiration and DIY/how-to projects for the Christmas holiday season. It'll be available in early November via online orders only, and in limited quantities (click here to purchase it).
Here is today's project:
Candy Gumball Wreath Plate

This fun and edible gumball wreath makes use of a kitchen plate for a base and colorful candy for the design. Any candy can be used with great success.
What you will need:
- 9-inch white dinner plate
- 1 10 oz. bottle Wilton ready-made royal icing
- 25 large red gum balls
- 1 yard of ribbon
- Plate hanger
To make:
1. Lie a clean and dry plate on a paper covered work surface. Place a dot of royal icing on the surface of each gumball and apply to the inner edge of the plate (where the plat rim meets the well portion of the plate).
2. Repeat with the gum balls, placing the edge of the gumball directly next to the previous one. Continue until the gum balls almost meet at the top of the plate (we left three out so we would have a place to hot glue the bow).
3. Let dry several hours until icing has hardened and candy is solidly affixed. Make a bow from ribbon and hot glue to the space free of gum balls. Place a plate hanger on back of plate and hang like a wreath.
