Earlier today, we showed you the blank canvas that this bathroom… and look at it now! A unique, modern gem with a focus on both form and function. Continue to see more photos and to read about the makeover.

Owners Jim and Rui chose neutral, high quality finishes and modern appliances. And although the main color is still white just like the “before” picture, they have added pops of color and stunning textural details. Mirrors are also prevalent, giving the small space a feeling of vastness.

The layout of the bathroom is also noteworthy (which is no surprise, as Jim is an architect). To the right is a small room with a toilet and sink, and a pocket door for privacy. On the left is a white tiled shower with a glass door. And in between, shown in the photo above, is an open area with a sink and cabinets. By eliminating the wall that usually separates the bathroom from the bedroom, both rooms feel larger.

Jim and Rui did add a room divider… only not in the traditional sense. This one was bought in Paris, and is made of thousands of pieces of string-like material suspended from a moving track so that it can be shifted left or right.

Below, you can see what the space looks like with the room divider moved over to the left. It has a different feel, doesn’t it?

The exterior of the home is a prefab design by architect Rocio Romero, and was chosen for its spare aesthetic and large windows – to highlight the beautiful natural surroundings. And the bathroom does not depart from that style. However, Jim and Rui are avid art collectors; so it is filled with beautiful works of art that soften the room, complementing the space perfectly.

Every detail has been considered – the lush greens in the portrait complement those in the illustrations above the toilet, while the square shape of the sconces mirror that of the tiles on the wall.

Whether you are a fan of modern interiors or not, you have to admit that this space is a memorable one. And quite a transformation!
