Newlywed Masterful Bedroom Makeover: The Plan and Inspiration Board

by on Apr 20, 2011

When setting out to redo our master bedroom I was looking to take it from “hot mess” to simply hot. When gathering inspiration I was constantly drawn to saturated colors, prints and patterns, and layers of personal touches.

Here’s the inspiration board I put together to serve as the starting point for our makeover:

I grabbed these images from various blogs and magazines I like. If you’re doing an inspiration board, I recommend using something like Curbly’s “clippings” feature to keep your ideas organized (another good service is Pinterest).

Now, before we could turn the blighted “before” bedroom into the astounding “after” retreat in just one weekend, we needed to do a little compromising. We don’t have a very big space and we weren’t going to be replacing our furniture, doing dramatic construction or bringing in any extra help. So we settled on a list we (hopefuly!) could manage. We settled on:

  • Repainting
  • New bedding
  • Installing trim
  • Replacing all light fixtures
  • New closet doors
  • A few DIY projects and what I like to call “tszujing”

We also set out to do everything in as eco-friendly a fashion as possible. Easy as pie, right?! I can’t wait to share how all the hard work turned out! Next up, diving into home remodel DIY!
