Newlywed Masterful Bedroom Makeover: The Before

by on Apr 19, 2011

Since getting married last April (our one-year anniversary is in two weeks!), I’ve been delighted by all the amazing changes married life has brought. Sadly, the house my husband bought before we met isn’t one of them. These “before” photos illustrate our need for an upgrade:

created at: 04/13/2011To call our suburban, split-level, 4-bedroom house a “project” is a serious understatement. It was built in 1975 (remember all the great design from that year?), so it is resplendent with wall-to-wall carpet, popcorn ceilings and a basement full of cedar paneled walls.

Updating the house has felt like an massive undertaking; one we’ve been putting off. But, with no end to the real estate woes in sight, we decided, as the Curbly motto says, you ‘gotta love where you live.’ And newlyweds deserve a proper master bedroom!

Here are some more pictures to give you a sense of what we’re working with here:

The limey-green walls, spot-lit closets, hodgepodge bedding and piled-high bed-side tables don’t exactly provide a relaxing romantic retreat. But we’re in no position to do a total gut job; so we approached the project as a makeover we could tackle in a weekend.

Inspired by SYLVANIA’s Blogger Room Makeover Challenge, and armed with a $500 Lowe’s gift card, SYLVAVNIA’s ULTRA ALine LED light bulbs and our own creativity, we set off to turn our room into a a masterful retreat.

Now that we made it through our {very long!} weekend of work, the makeover is finished, and I can’t wait to share it with you! Check back over the next few days to follow our entire whirlwind process. Next up – our inspiration and project list.

In the meantime, Check out all the SYLVANIA blogger room makeovers  on the SYLVANIA  Facebook page. If you “like” the page, you can enter the daily sweeps to win your own SYLVANIA lighting products and Lowe’s gift cards so you can perform you own room makeover!
