Pretty Handy Girl came up with the idea to make REUSABLE gift tags with the help of chalkboard paint. She employed standard black spray paint, but now that we know you can make your OWN chalkboard paint in ANY COLOR, I thought I’d whip one up in red using balsa wood.
Here’s PHG’s ingredients:
- Chalkboard paint
- Foam core
- Chalk or chalkboard pen
- A hole punch
- X-acto knife
- Pencil
- Ruler
And here are mine:
- homemade red chalkboard paint
- balsa wood (mine was 3″ wide)
- straight edge
- craft blade
- ruler
- cutting mat
- drill with small-ish bit (about 1/4″ or so)
- sponge brush
- chalk
- gold paint pen for ‘dot’ border
For the entire tute, head on over to PHG.
P.S. I’d never heard of chalkboard pens before, so I did some sniffing around. Turns out they work great on baked-on-metal chalkboard surfaces. For painted ones, like walls and such, they leave a ‘halo’ which can’t be removed. Too bad, because they look awesome.
