How to Paint Vinyl Flooring

by on Mar 8, 2010

Yeah, I didn’t believe it either when I first read the title, but, apparently, you can actually paint vinyl flooring. At least that’s what Gregory Han did. Not only did he paint his dodgy bathroom vinyl floor, he stenciled it too. If you’re completely inspired by his before and after pics and want to give it a go yourself, here’s what Gregory says you’ll need:

  • 180 grit sandpaper
  • Sanding pole
  • TSP solution (tri-sodium phosphate)
  • Deglosser cleaner
  • Small paint roller
  • 3-4 small paint trays
  • Mixing sticks
  • Mask
  • Latex gloves
  • Latex primer/sealer
  • Paint brush(es)
  • Exterior “porch and floor” or vinyl siding paint
  • Stencil (we used Ed Roth’s Stencil 101 Decor)
  • Blue painters masking tape
  • Polyurethane sealer
  • Stenciling brush
  • Optional: small fan to help airflow/drying times
