Pantone's 2014 Color of the Year

By: Diy maven Dec 05, 2013

Yesterday, Pantone announced their color of the year for 2014, and it is Radiant Orchid, 18-3224. They describe it as a warm, confident, magical color that draws  us in with its 'beguiling charm.' Pantone suggests adding it to interiors via accent pieces and accessories.

It complements 'olive and deeper hunter greens,' and pairs well with 'turquoise, teal and even light yellows.' It also livens up neutrals like gray, beige, and taupe. So, what do you think? Are you feeling the orchid love?

I'm unimpressed.

Loved tangerine tango, loved emerald. Not a fan of this one.

Guess they can't always get it right!

@ayla m— :) These 80's colors (sea foam green and peach, as well) always look dirty to me. Like their real color is hiding behind a coat of cigarette smoke.

Really not sure about this. Takes me back to the 'pink and grey' interior colour schemes of the eighties, which, even in retrospect, never seem to work. I may feel better about it in the spring.

oh heeelllllllll no. i'm having trauma flashbacks to the first room i was "allowed" to "design" as a 10 year old girl, where i picked the color i wanted (a gorgeous, rich dark reddish-purple, like spiced wine) and my mom automatically chose the color 3 shades lighter on the sample because she didn't want me to "live in a cave". i had to live in a room painted with a color i couldn't stand for six years, and it was stunningly similar to radiant effing orchid.

god, i didn't even remember until now how much i resented this color. THANKS PANTONE, NOW I NEED TO GO BACK TO THERAPY.
