My New Craft Room: Art supply shelf

By: Diy maven May 11, 2007

What I love about my new art supply shelf is that it’s multi-functional: it looks great and keeps my pens, pencils and scissors tidy and within reach.

To make it, MWT* ripped a piece of 3/4" MDF to 5" x 48". (I decided on 48" to match the width of my new work station, above which the shelf will hang.) We added small brackets to both ends of the piece to complete the shelf structure. Next, we spaced and then cut six holes in the horizontal piece. The holes we sized to fit clear plastic cups I found at Target (on sale for $1.30 each). After construction, I applied with three coats of semi-gloss latex paint, sanding with 220 grit sandpaper between coats. Before I fitted the cups in the openings, I cut strips of white felt and glued them inside each hole to protect my cups from scratches.

Tomorrow: display track for art

Its cool Craft Room - Art supply shelf, several sections where you can put everything you like; if it’s a kid’s room, your child will put there his or her drawings, felt-tip pens

MWT is very handy. But if he didn't enjoy making stuff, he wouldn't put up with my hair-brained ideas. Good luck in converting yours ;)

Ah, this is where the genius began! I still can't get over how cute AND functional it is! Right now all my pens and markers are lying sad and miserable in the drawer... I need to make my MWTBDUTEaW (Man With Tools But Doesn't Use Them Except at Work) into just... MWT, like yours...
Thanks for the promotion, true!
Hey I posted this as part of my Crafty Link Dump at the Norfolk Craft Mafia site. Cool idea!
Thanks felisaudis! I get kind of giddy when I look in that room--it makes me very happy!
