From Goofy to Grand: 5 Easy Lamp Makeovers

by on Feb 6, 2012

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I’m beholding some very goofy lamps out there all ripe for makeovers. Thank goodness for spray paint!

Tiff’s makeover, pictured above, cost less than six dollars to complete. Before it looked heavy and rather masculine. After…not so much.

We get a two-fer with Brook’s makeover. She, too, chose to paint this brass lamp white. The shade, which she had on hand, was a little to ‘blah’ for her, so she added rosettes to it. I particularly like the combination of textures.

The quintessential ‘ginger pot’ lamp. They were everywhere back in the ’80’s, and they all looked pretty much the same. Kiki transformed her pink ginger pot into a one-of-a-kind creation with some yellow spray paint and paint markers from Michael’s. Darling.

Shannon found this brassy lamp for a schmeazily $2.50 at Goodwill. A shot of spray paint and now it looks marvelous. I particularly like how it picks up the blue in the pillows.

A nightlamp is between the two chairs.

Our final makeover might be a bit controversial. Natalie bought two of these very vintage-y lamps for $3.99 each. She decided to shoot them with flat black. Fifteen minutes later, this is what the lamps look like now:

"Lampshade using old Utensils"

Vintage or not, that flat, black finish looks excellent.
