Top 10 Bedroom & Office Makeovers of 2011

by on Dec 22, 2011

As another year comes to a close, we’d like to take the opportunity to look back at all the marvelous makeovers we’ve seen here on Curbly in 2011. In this roundup of the best of the best, we’re concentrating on bedrooms and offices. The criteria for landing on this esteemed list is simple: the rooms had to make us do a double take. Sometimes that meant studying the before to make sure it was the same room as pictured in the after. Sometimes it was studying the before to see how even subtle changes can make a huge difference. So, without further ado, here are the best bedroom & office makeovers of 2011. created at: 01/10/2011

First up is Kate’s home office. It used to be a source of embarrassment, but 5 months and a thousand dollars, it’s fit for the pages of Elle Decor.

Heather’s office wasn’t much of anything when she first moved into her house.

A black chair and a white chair in a blue room with a blue sofa with junk on it.

But just look at it now!

A heavily decorated bedroom with colorful walls and a black chair at a white desk.

Curbly’s own Chris turned a spare bedroom from a workspace….

Monica made over her entire bedroom/office this year as well. It went from chilly…

to utterly charming.

1912 Bungalow is a labor of love, as exhibited in this home office project. Here is the room ready to become something:

A room is being remodeled and has stripped walls and one piece of furniture covered in plastic.

And here it is something wonderful:

A table and white chairs is in the living room.

Now, as we turn to the bedroom portion of this post, we’re going to visit 1912 Bungalow once again. Much as the office pictured above, this room was in rough shape ‘before.’

A room under construction with tattered walls.

Not any more.

A neatly made bed in a small bedroom with a lamp and open window.

This room lands a spot on our list for clever re-use of wall color.

That’s right, it’s the same purple, but with new accessories, the room is as fresh as springtime.

Mai’s bedroom went from sad minimal…

A large bed in a neutral room.

to sensational minimal.

Sleeping  in Melissa’s wood-paneled bedroom must have felt like she was sleeping in a crate!

A small bedroom with yellow walls and a poorly made bed.

Not any more! Now it looks like the inside of a cloud. Dreamy.

Clean and organized bedroom with lots of photos on the walls, and a large bed, and yellow chair.

Cat’s bedroom…what can I say? Paint testing splotches on the wall, various area rugs scattered about…it was a mess.

Now it’s marvelous. No surprise that the makeover won her $10K from Domino Magazine. created at: 02/13/2011

And finally, this dramatic black and white makeover.

I’ve toggled between the before and after a dozen times and it still leaves me shaking my head. Yes, it IS the same room.
