Silverware Drawer Makeover

by on Mar 21, 2011

My silverware drawer is embarrassing. It has become the Bermuda Triangle of my kitchen as it’s the catch-all for little stuff that I think is too important to throw but not important enough for which to find a spot. It’s also a depository for random twist ties, wine corks, chopsticks, a PEZ dispenser, pens, pens and more pens. And don’t even get me started about the ‘country’ blue organizer. Ick. SO, I decided to embrace Curbly’s Cleaning and Organization Month and tame my silverware drawer!

Of all the organizing jobs I’ve tackled, this is the easiest. Thanks in part to a GREAT drawer organizer called the Expand-a-Drawer Cutlery Tray. I found it at The Container Store for $17.99. If that sounds expensive for a drawer organizer, it really isn’t when you consider its cool factor. It actually expands, like its name suggests, from 12″ to 28″ wide, meaning you can adjust the organizer to the EXACT width of your drawer within those same measurements. Its length is a standard drawer depth of 18″ and it’s 2 1/4″ high.

As I cleaned out my drawer, I took the opportunity to pitch the extraneous. Take a look at it now!

P.S. I was so pleased with the outcome, I bought an Extend-a-Drawer for my utensil drawer too!
