15 Great Decluttering Tips

  1. Declutter for 15 minutes every day.
  2. Don’t allow things into the house in the first place.
  3. Donate stuff you’re decluttering.
  4. Create a Joe’s Goals chart with decluttering on it.
  5. Start at the corner by the door and move your way around the room.
  6. Whenever you’re boiling the kettle for tea, tidy up the kitchen.
  7. Use the “one in, two out” rule.
  8. Make your storage space smaller.
  9. Clothing rule.
  10. The One-Year Box.
  11. Declutter one room.
  12. Keep a list in your planner labeled “Don’t Need It – Don’t Want It.”
  13. Internalize that your value is not in your “stuff”.
  14. Have someone else (who you trust!) help you go through things.
  15. Gift everything.

    I do appreciate where this is coming from and who it’s intended for, but there needs to be another different list for creative, inspirational types. I like to see art around me, unintentional combos of colour, form and texture and I have a lot of creative interests. The zen of my way is to be surprised. Just sayin’. Thank you for your article.
