Hi, just wanted to say that...my shed is in london. It's a top quality shed and is bone dry all year through. It came pre-treated. I have had no problem with mice but we do have a cat! It's lovely to work in, just use an extension lead for lamp, heater, fan etc...all my fabrics and sewing machine are fine! Just buy a really good quality shed.

This looks so awesome! I dream of the day I can have my own craft room...and something set outside away from the house will be even less distracting.

This must be located in a low-humidity, very mild climate, or I don't see how it would be safe to leave a sewing machine and textiles out there. I'm in the process of renovating an outdoor shed and turning it into a functioning textile/art studio. This has involved insulating the space, and now I'm working on proper ventilation to combat the North Carolina humidity and the drastic temperature changes (example: last week it was in the low 20s here; today it's been in the 60s). I have yarns, fabrics, sewing machines and flatbed knitting machines that will occupy my studio, but I don't dare leave them out there without some means of climate control. Oh, and the poster who suggested peppermint oil to discourage mice was right on. I had mice get into the studio (which necessitated the washing of about 300# of fabric), and I've put so much mint oil out there that it smells like a pack of Doublemint gum. No more mice, tho, so I'm happy about that.

Great space Capree, but I'm sure you all know I'd have stained and poly coated the walls. :^D Still it's nice and cozy though only a summer spot in my neck of the woods.

Anony, we live in the country surrounded by bean and cornfields so mice are a problem here. For the last eight years we've only had one mouse in the house and that's because I accidently brought it in inside something from the garage. But I cornered it with this method and... well it wound up trapped. Literally. OUCH for mousie.

Get yourself some cotton balls and some 100% PURE Peppermint Oil at your local health food store. Ask a clerk, I'm sure they'll be able to get you the right product. Add ten drops of Peppermint Oil on each cotton ball and spread them around the rim of your home. We do this near the ceiling in the basement, about every foot or so, and now in the garage near the doors and throughout the rest of the garage. Mice are highly allergic to Peppermint so when they come near the scent of pure Peppermint Oil they turn the other direction.
