Before & After: Modern IKEA Table Makeover

created at: 10/22/2012

Ah, the Melltorp table. It's a great start to a modern dining table, but the melamine top leaves something to be desired (especially in the scratch-resistant and quality materials departments). What to do? DIY your own concrete tabletop, of course!

Riikka Kantinkoski, the fabulously talented designer and gifted DIYer behind Weekday Carnival, decided to give her plain Melltorp table a modern, concrete facelift. I love, love, LOVE how it turned out! See more on Weekday Carnival.

What do you guys think of this idea? Would you swap out your melamine tabletops for a little concrete love?

Sarahee7 - I imagine it's a similar process to making concrete countertops (but a little less intense). Here are a couple tutorials: http://www.curbly.com/users/kellyb/posts/11067-how-to-make-diy-concrete-countertops and http://www.curbly.com/users/diy-maven/posts/10536-how-to-make-concrete-counter-tops

Shucks, I'd love a tutorial on that.  I have the same table.
