How to Make a "Sponge" Lamp from Masking Tape!

created at: 09/17/2012

What would you say if I told you that this "sea sponge" lamp was actually made from... wait for... masking tape?! It's true!

This delicate-looking lamp, reminiscent of underwater organisms, is made from dozens (hundreds?) of pieces of rolled-up tape. It's pretty brilliant, honestly. My only concern would be the inevitable dust factor. Maybe you could spray it with some kind of varnish or clear coat?

If you want to try your hand at making your own tape sponge lamp, check out the photo-heavy tutorial over on Design Sponge*.

*The word of the day is 'sponge' in case you were wondering.
