Using a wooden desktop drawer unit from IKEA, Kristine from The Painted Hive created this beautiful and perfectly-aged card file cabinet. Some stain, sealer, and brass file pulls are all you need create your own. Check out Kristine's tutorial for tips on pulling off this vintage-inspired look!

Can i just say that i LOVE this! I'm totally going to make this for my house, it would match my home so perfectly!!

SanDesigns -- Oh, lucky! You could totally do this with the ones you have if you ever get bored with them! :) Also, I heard they were discontinued because a) the original design was too expensive to ship (it couldn't be flat packed) and then b) people complained too much about the assembly of the new flat-pack design (I think it broke quite often when people were putting it together). So, they decided to discontinue it. Too bad! These are great little storage units!

@Shawna I think it's the back of the drawers and the cutouts are on the other side. Moppe had no back and you can push the drawers from both sides.

I wish IKEA USA still sold this type of wooden drawer cabinets!!! About six years ago I bought four of the cabinets in this line with three horizontal drawers and wish I had a dozen of them. I have used two of them to support a single long shelf. They are great for storing craft supplies. Wonder why they stopped making them?

emh - Looks like they're still available in the UK. So if you live there, you're in luck! ;) Or there's always eBay and Craigslist. You can probably find similar little wooden drawer units at craft stores, too. This technique isn't only applicable to these specific IKEA drawers. Part of DIYing is getting creative! Hope that's helpful.

Too bad IKEA hasn't made those drawers for a few years now.... Kind of an unjelpful DIY idea.

What happened to the u shaped cutouts? The brass carplates are too low to be covering them.
