Akira Ishikawa is credited with this idea* (though we can't find a link--if you can dig one up, please share big thank you to CheesePirate for hunting down the link!) over on ReCraft.  What purists may call blasphemous, I call a playful, non-permanent way of mixing things up on the decor front!  Plus, the color combos and pattern possibilities are practically endless.  What do you think, Curbliers?  Yay or nay to this knitted chair idea?

*UPDATE: The original photo came from Flickr!  Knitting by Noriko of Plain Living; styling by Akira Ishikawa; photography by Osamu Koizumi; created for Tokyo CultuArt by Beams.  Huzzah!

I love these - I don't think you need to be able to knit and even kids could join in with some guidance.

Thank you!! Now I just need a wire chair, some roving... :)

Thanks for the tips re: roving. I'll keep an eye out. :)

Stella: It looks like the "knitted" effect was created by pulling loops through. Pass a loop through the first opening in the mesh, pass another loop through the opening above it and through loop 1, pull tight, repeat going up the chair, working vertically row by row. Then just weave in the ends to hide & secure them. I'm not sure about moving to the next row over, and unfortunately I've got nothing to experiment with here at work. But I don't think you'd need any actual knitting skillz.

CapreeK - Too bad it's the knitted-looking one I like... :)

Anyone have instructions for a non-knitter??

Claire, I think CheesePirate is right about the roving. Maybe try looking for that?

Stella - The white/tan/beige chair on the right looks like they just wove the fiber under and over the wires, which wouldn't be too hard!

Too bad there's no actual how-to, cuz I LOVE it!!

It looks like roving rather than yarn -- I think you can get pencil roving in a lot of colors & fibers ...

I just want to know where I can find yarn that thick! It's practically rope, but softer and fluffier and so much prettier. I love it!

Krislyn - Any wire chair will do! ;)

just have to acquire the incredible Eames chairs......

Ahh, thank you!! Updating the linkage now! :)

Big 'Yay!' And I think the link you're looking for might be this one?
