DIY Idea: High-Impact, Low-Cost Wall Art!

When I first spotted this image on Flickr, I fell in love with the idea immediately.  What a beautiful installation this would make in a guest room, living room, or even the master bedroom!  It's soft and whimsical, crafty and nostalgic all at the same time.  Can you guess what it's made of?

Christine of CityPix snapped this image in a local cafe, inspired by the simplicity and beauty of the wall installation.  Adapting this concept into your own home decor would be a piece of cake!  But first, what materials would you need??  Give up?  This charming piece of wall art is made from large orange thumbtacks, paper doilies, and cupcake liners!  (All available for cheap, cheap, cheap at craft or even dollar stores.)

So, what do you guys think of this idea?  Would you try something similar in your own home?  Share all your thoughts, ideas, and comments below!

i think that i am going to use this in an adapted form for my daughters room. she is 7 months and i think the fun colored and patterned cupcake liners would create a lovely image on her wall

Looks great Liz!!

I've had this pinned for months, but finally got around to it today.  I ran out of cupcake lines before I got as far as I'd like, but I still like the way it looks.  I didn't really like the look with doilies so mine is just cupcake liners and coffee filters.  And my thumb tacks are definitely smaller and spray painted by me.

Laura, it turned out beautifully!  I love the ruffled flower effect--great job!

What a fun idea! I did a mini version inspired by this using coffee filters. I didn't like mine flat so scrunched them up for a dimensional flower effect...great fun and oh so affordable. Found this on pinterest!

Here's a link to some additional pics I took of my little project! http://designsbylkc.blogspot.com/2012/01/wall-decor-styling-with-coffee-filters.html

Thanks again!

Ridix - Ooo, share pics if you can!

I'm printing this out for reference. going to try it like... NOW! (or... when my printer's done printing :-p)

Anon - The larger ones are paper doilies, but it's possible that some of the medium-sized ones are coffee filters!

are they cupcake liners or coffee filters?

Bethany, please share pics if you end up doing something like this!  I'd love to see your interpretation!

I've been trying to figure out how to give our bedroom decor some extra magic, and I think this would fit the ticket!  Thanks for sharing!
