Ban Your Beige Sofa Blues with Playful Tufting!

Is your beige sofa getting you down?  Consider giving it a playful (and colorful) facelift!

Lori Dunbar, a stationery designer and blogger, had had enough of the beige blahs and decided her sofa needed a bit of a makeover.  Armed with a button kit and some colorful vintage fabric, she set to work giving her run-of-the-mill sofa a few playful additions.  I think it's safe to say that the after is anything but boring!

Check out Lori's blog Paisley Wallpaper for more about this project as well as step-by-step instructions for creating your own custom buttons!

So, Curbliers, do you have a sofa or chair that could benefit from a little bit of tufting?  Would you go the colorful route like Lori or keep things uniform?  Share your thoughts in the comments!

That sofa looks like an Ikea Karlstad with the Isunda Gray cover.  I have the same one, but with the connected chaise.  I am so impressed with the new tufted cushions...think I just might give it a try myself!  Although, I think I'll probably cover the buttons in the same Isunda Gray fabric.  Fantastic DIY project...thanks for sharing!

My sofa already has tufting along the back, but I've been thinking of swapping out the fabric on the buttons for some contrast, a la those cushions you wrote about on MYIYA a few weeks ago.

I'm afraid that trying to maintain existing tufting would be more difficult than starting from scratch. Anyone have suggestions or experience?
