Our DIY Paver Stone Project: Part 2

By: Bruno Jun 20, 2011

Over the last two weeks, I've been making-over our mildly pathetic back yard with a brand new paver stone walkway and patio. In this part of the series, I'll show you how I planned the whole thing out (including a sweet 3D rendering), and how much I spent on materials in the first (of several) shopping trips.

It's all over on the HouseLogic blog, and I think you'll be really surprised to hear how I my costs under control. Go check it out!

PLUS: HouseLogic is giving away a $100 gift card to a randomly selected person who leaves a comment on my guest post (hurry, you have until Thursday, June23rd at 11:59 pmContinue Reading

Our DIY Paver Stone Walkway: Part 1

By: Bruno Jun 10, 2011

Getting a little help with my DIY paver stone walkway project
This summer, I'm really excited because I'm getting a chance to completely re-do our back yard walkway. With sponsorship from the nice folks at HouseLogic.com, I'm going to tear out our old, cracked, incomplete concrete walk, and replace it with a brand new paver stone one.

I'm chronicling my (mis)adventures in a series of guest posts over at the HouseLogic.com blog, and the first one went up today. In it, I walk you through what's wrong with our current walkway (um, everything?) and give you an idea how I plan to fix it. I hope you'll follow along with me as I attempt this not-so-simple DIY project; I'll be sharing all my experiences, costs, and lessons learned.

You Have Too Much Lawn, and It's Driving You Nuts

By: Bruno Jun 02, 2011

It sounds almost un-American ... is there such a thing as too much lawn in a culture that glorifies riding lawn mowers and robotic grass trimmers? The overwhelming feeling about lawns seems to be "the more the better". And if they're more uniform than your wall-to-wall carpeting, even better.

Well, Evelyn Hadden, an award-winning gardening author and speak, is on a quest to change that. I came across her Web site, LessLawn.com, a few… Continue Reading

Caldrea Countertop Cleaner: Herbs of Provence

By: Bruno May 26, 2011

Caldrea Herbs of Provence countertop cleanerMan, I can not tell you how much I never imagined I would write a blog post with that title. But last week Alicia brought home a bottle of Caldrea's Herbs of Provence countertop cleaner from Target, and after a quick wipe-down in the kitchen, I was in love.

Listen to me. I sound like an idiot. But honestly, this stuff smells so good that I don't care. I once took a tour of a soap making factory in Provence (imagine a field in the French… Continue Reading

15 Incredible Sinks (and one lame one)

By: Bruno May 18, 2011

15 Incredible Bathroom Sinks (and one lame one)Two years ago we remodeled our bathroom (we have only one, and it's teeny-weeny ... like, you can wash your hands and use the toilet at the same time). So, due to space and budget constraints, we settled for a pretty bland pedestal sink, so here it is ... the one lame one. Read on to see all the cool ones I rounded up...

Server Problems Yesterday

By: Bruno May 17, 2011

You probably noticed we had some ongoing server problems yesterday (still lingering today). I just wanted to apologize and explain; it's due to an outage with our hosting provider (Heroku), which apparently was experiencing a denial-of-service attack.

In general things, should be back to normal today. If you get an error on any page, just try re-loading it, and make sure you add the 'www.' part to the front of the URL. Meanwhile, I'm… Continue Reading
