Bride’s Look-a-Like Wedding Cake

By: Diy maven Jan 11, 2008

A week from today, Curbly’s esteemed creator Bruno is getting married. That’s right. He’s getting hitched. Tying the knot. What will Bruno and Alicia's wedding cake look like? I’m guessing nothing like Chidi Ogbuta’s look-a-like confection. The cake, it is said, fulfilled a childhood dream. Via CNN.

I'm sorry, but this cake is awful along with the dress.

Henry--your cake was FABULOUS! I can see why it was a big hit.

I'm a big fan of the non-traditional wedding cake. My wife and I wanted something a little more creative. While we still had a cake, it was a far cry from the norm. I must say that mine was a big hit and I was glad we did it. As long as you have fun, do whatever you choose for youselves and not anyone else.

I'll post our cake on my profile. May give you some inspiration.

We're skipping a cake too, and some people I tell are really freaking out about it!  Like Bruno, we're planning an alternate dessert (actually, want a sampler of 3 small desserts - creme brulee or flan will be one, need to decide on the others).

Not a faux pas at all. When my husband and I got hitched last September, we had cupcakes made by a friend who owns a coffee shop. I displayed them on antique cut glass cake platters. Better than any cake!

Weddings are supposed to be personal too you.  I just think making one look like you is not right, kind of vain.  Now brulees, and other things such as cupcakes, or like the french: croque en bouche http://www.brides.com/weddingstyle/realweddings/145051/detail/145060

is another alternative too.  Have fun and enjoy your wedding.

over-rated - I like the idea of gourmet cupcakes.

It's not controversial in the least! We went to a wedding a while back and instead of cake they served  chocolate truffles. I was in heaven.

Thanks Maven! Actually, we're skipping the cake (controversial, I know), in favor of miniature creme brulées, stacked cake-like, or course.

What do you guys think? Is skipping the wedding cake a big no-no, or are cakes just overrated budge-breakers?
