Materials:

1/8' yard fleece
Long straight edge/yard stick
Rotary cutter or scissors
Contact paper
Craft knife and sharp blade
Pencil
Fabric paint
Stencil brush

Here's a quick run down:

Doing your best to keep everything square, cut out your scarf shape. It can be whatever width and length matches your body and taste.
Create a stencil with the contact paper, peel off the backing, and adhere it to the scarf.
Using quick dabbing motions, blot the paint into the stencil.
Remove, wrap it around you, and rock around the Christmas tree!

Richard, sure, but you certainly don't use an entire pot of paint on one scarf. You could get a yard of fabric, a roll of contact paper, a brush, and paint for around $12-14, and make at least 10 of these.

This is a charming idea and well executed but I have to take issue with your assertion that the project would cost less than $2.00. Apparently you haven't been keeping up with the prices of fabric paint lately, as even a small pot costs well over $2.00!

I DID get the sewing machine, but I haven't run it yet, since it's my Christmas present, and my wife says I'd be cheating. It does way something like 35 pounds, so I'm pretty convinced it'll be dope.
