HELP ME: Interior design ideas!

When we moved into our home almost 5 years ago we just used my furniture and didn't go out and buy new stuff. It looks pretty good, but I'd really like to make it more user friendly. Right now we have a fairly oversized sofa, chair and ottoman, as well as a too large armoire/entertainment unit in the room.
