I want a new workbench

By tmgeorgo

I'd like to get a new workbench for my garage.  The bench I've been using for the past four years is a leftover from the previous owner of my house and is a fairly sturdy DIY version but with limited storage and power.  He/she took three particle board vanities and screwed them together, then fastened a thick sheet of MDF across the top of all three.

I'd like to have one with a nice wood top, an open shelf and some drawers underneath, and a pegboard back with a light and a power strip.  I've considered building a DIY version and haven't ruled that out yet, but I have run across a few off the shelf workbench systems that I like

The Craftsman #61825 from Sears has all of the features I want, but I'd like to check it out at the store and see the quality for myself.

The price is nice and it seems to go on and off sale all the time, so there is a good chance I could get an awesome bargain if I just time it right and do a little coupon stacking.  :)

If the #61825 isn't up to snuff, I would be open to the models in the Craftsman Professional line (assuming I could afford them).

Gorilla Racks has one I like, the GRB 7560

I would need to add a power strip and light on the GRB 7560, but that wouldn't be a problem at all.

Of course there are always options like these euro workbench systems from Global Industrial. Those wouldn't be cheap, but I'm sure they're awesome.

If anyone has some ideas or suggestions for off the shelf workbenches that are good for weekend DIYers, I'd love to hear about them.

Thats a nice looking workbench, especially when you factor in the low price.  Looks an awful lot like an enhanced version of the Gorilla Racks GB 2102.

Too bad you don't live in Canada, I've loved mine since the day I bought it:

Can't offer any advice... but reading your post, I can't help wondering why they're called workbenches? They're obviously not for sitting!
