Handmade Modern Baby Storage Console

Here's the storage console I made for my daughter's nursery. We needed some furniture next to our chair to store bottles, books, etc. while feeding and playing with her. I got the idea from the bedside library project in the "Handmade Modern" book by Todd Oldham and modified his plans a little bit to make the console better sized for our nursery and use materials and paint I already had on hand.
I got the Waddell brand conical prefab legs & brackets and self adhesive cork shelf liner from Lowes, and a local unfinished furniture store called "CJ Woodmaster" sells premade cubes in all sorts of configurations (1x1, 1x2, 1x5, etc). I just had to sand the cube, prime and paint everything, then drill holes underneath to attach the brackets for the legs and cut the cork liner to fit the top.
The project was super easy to do (it had to be, since I could only work on it between feedings/naps and that's at most 2 hours at a time) and the green color matches the tree/bird mural I painted on the wall. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Of course there are things I would do differently if I were to make another, but that's always the case when you make something, right?!

The cork helps out in a lot of ways--it makes a non-slip surface like you said, stops dents and nicks on the soft wood, and reduces the loud echo when setting something on top. Plus, we don't need to use a coasters for our drinks either.
The project plans said to stain and seal the cork, but I didn't see any stain colors that I really liked and didn't want to make the top color any darker than it had to be, so I left it natural.
