New apartment

By ticktockterror

We just moved into a lovely new apartment on Thursday. I'm curious what your suggestions on what color to paint the walls. We have a small toupe chaise, and everything else is white in the living room. Our bedroom furniture is black/brown. I was thinking blues or greens for the living room, but i'm not sure if it would work with the color of the hard woods.

Please excuse thew move-in mess!

Oh my goodness, look at the kitties! I'd also go with olive. I love that darn color.

What a beautiful apartment! Love the door and fireplace. I think a slight olive-ish green might look nice in the living room.

No suggestions, just two things I love about your new place. 1) The great hardwood floors. 2) The beautiful iMac.

P.S. 3) the kitties.

Great place! I love the potential and your idea of blue and green, which will really stand out. With your warm floor colors, lots of white or light-colored furniture, I think contrasting wall colors like the blue and green you have in mind will bring a lot of contrast to your rooms. If you want a really warm space--maybe your bedroom to coordinate with your bedroom furniture--staying with browns and darker reds or neutral but deep tones would be a great feel. What a beautiful space--have fun with it!

Your floor colors are very warm- they'd almost belong as an orange on the color wheel- so, using a cool color like a blue or green on the walls will make a dramatic contrast. Which is totally cool, but they'll really pop out. If your furniture is toupe, it will look brighter against a cool color like green or blue. If you go with a warm color-orange, red, yellow, brown- on the walls, neither your floors or your funiture will really stand out. They'll simply contribute to the overall 'warmth' of your room.
