Idea for Kitchen Cabinets

By terryswaler

Our rental house was trashed from the tenant we had to evict — so we had to do some major work on the house especially the kitchen — but couldn’t afford to replace cabinets, etc.  So — here was my solution.  I painted them with roosters.

I found these cool dishes with roosters on them from Sam's Club and took them as inspiration.  Also -- I am currently in love with Clarice Cliff pottery. You can see it in the bungalows and trees in the background.

No problem.  I always like to know how things are made too!  :)

My rooster would likely look like Barney.  But I do so love refinishing something rather than replacing.  Really outstanding.

Wow.  Your next tenant is so lucky!  I expect the painting will attract the kind of person who will take good care of the place, too.

An inspiring transformation - thanks for sharing it!

Ooooh -- a talented artist?!  <laughing>  I wish.

Seriously -- these are so simple.  Just acrylic paints and copying from the picture.  I painted the cupboards blue...then with white with a little yellow mixed in -- I sponged the clouds until I liked them...then added green for the background - then traced the rooster over it.  Very simple.

The only thing that I did additionally was go to a craft store and get the spray polyurethane that's glossy and protects the paint from the sun's rays.  If you want I'll dig it up and tell you exactly.

If I can do it, trust me -- ANYONE can do this.

That is really cool! You're a talented artist, though, what about those of us who can't paint roosters very well (or anything else, for that matter)?
