Wooden Electronic Ruler.

By Chrisjob

"You gotta just love when something really old gets revamped with a modern twist...Little to no detail has been provided about the conceptual project, but based on the pics I’m gonna say it is actually functioning.  Placing the pencil on the sensor will provide a digital readout of that point’s length and to give it that authentic ruler feel they’ve added a transparent wood facade."

I'm in awe....

except I'm not sure how useful the decima » READ MORE

Wooden Modern Gadgets.

By Chrisjob

Plastic: it's cheap and easy to produce. And though I dearly love my iPhone, it's elegance is quite different than the classic charm of these hand crafted wooden versions of contemporary technology.

LOLCAT Purse

By swelldesigner

lol cat purse

Last night I created this funny LOLCAT purse of my cat Pixie from a basic printout, black paint, sparkles, and a wooden purse.  I wanted to create something that would be a conversation piece and I know a lot of people love the LOLCATS/Icanhazcheezburger pictures.

I posted full instructions on my blog...

How to Make FABRIC Silhouette Wall Art From (Mostly) Recycled Materials

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created on: 04/15/08

Silhouettes can transcend paper, you know?  I've been experimenting with all sorts of fabrics for silhouettes during the past year and a half.  The best materials are felt, hide, suede, faux leathers and, if you don't mind a little raveling, cotton velvet.

Believe it or not, the yellow floral fabric was a hideous sundress I found at GW.  I needed that color of  yellow so this is it.  The best thing was that the dress was lined so I used th » READ MORE

DIY Hangable Hamper

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created on: 04/15/08

Oftentimes it's quite simple to improve on an old idea.  This DIY Hangable Hamper took me two hours, tops, to design and complete.  It can be constructed from remnant fabrics and old purse handles salvaged from the Goodwill or your mom's closet.  My less-than-tidy husband is thinking of attaching  a hook on the wall in the closet so he can test out his wife's jiffy design.

what you need:

sewing machine

1 yard remnant or new fabric

By ModHomeEcTeacher

Trying to furnish your new digs on a shoestring?  This fabulous ottoman/hassock can be made for next to nothing.  Go to a hardware store that sells electrical wire off of a wooden spool and ask for a discarded spool.  Next, go to a fabric store and buy a cool fabric remnant that will cover your ottoman. Hint:  Upholstery fabric is 54" wide.  If you have a twenty inch round (diameter) o » READ MORE
