Bride’s Look-a-Like Wedding Cake

By DIY Maven

A week from today, Curbly’s esteemed creator Bruno is getting married. That’s right. He’s getting hitched. Tying the knot. What will Bruno and Alicia's wedding cake look like? I’m guessing nothing like Chidi Ogbuta’s look-a-like confection. The cake, it is said, fulfilled a childhood dream. Via CNN.

Paper Flowers...Perfect for the Curbly Bride?

By DIY Maven

Paper Source carries several lovely flower making kits that might be just the thing for the Curbly bride and her attendants. At around 14 bucks a kit, they’re a fraction of the cost of real flowers, and wouldn't your creations impress your guests??

My M & M’s....Perfect for a Curbly Wedding???

By DIY Maven

Maybe I spend a little too much time DIYing, but I didn’t know you could order personalized M & M’s off the My M & M’s website until I saw a commercial for them the other night on the Food Network.

You pick your color(s) from a choice of 17 and then add your custom message of up to 8 characters. On the opposite side of your message is the famous M & M ‘m’. The most cost effective packaging option is to buy 4-7 ounce bags for 48 bucks. Too c » READ MORE

A Curblier’s Wedding Plans Continued: The Contemporary Wedding Cake

By DIY Maven

If the first thing that comes to mind are swirls of white butter cream frosting when considering the quintessential confection commemorating couplehood, think again. Sweet Art Cakes takes a fun and fresh turn at creating some very cool and contemporary wedding cakes. (Note: Sweet Art Cakes is a UK company and ships only in the UK, but the cakes picture in their on-line portfolio could be duplicated by a bakery near you.)

Attention Engaged Curbliers: Save-the-date Refrigerator Magnets

By DIY Maven

Need to give your guests a heads up so they don't plan a trip to Vegas the weekend of your wedding? How about sending out save-the-date refrigerator magnets? The dozen or so designs offered by Exclusively Weddings are sold in packs of 24 for about 38 bucks, but they get cheaper the more packs you buy. So, yes, they’re more expensive than save-the-date postcards, but not nearly as mis-placeable and not nearly as cute either!

P.S. Have you » READ MORE

Have you heard? A fellow Curblier was recently ENGAGED!!!

By DIY Maven

I’m not telling who, but let’s just say he is one of my friends. So, in the spirit of things, I’ve decided to keep a look out for ideas which might be of interest to those preparing to walk down the aisle. First up are these absolutely sweet heart-shaped paper clips from the Spoon Sisters. They could be cute in wedding invitations to keep all those important slips of paper–including RSVPs, maps and where-we’re-registered info sheets–neat an » READ MORE

Wedding Favors.

By NCavillones

I totally wasn't going to do favors for my wedding. Instead, we were going to donate to two charities of our choice, in honor of guests and in memory of my grandmother. I just thought it was silly and wasteful to spend all that money on crappy favors that people probably won't keep.

Then... my sister suggested little photo albums, since Henry and I met on flickr (yes, we did!). I thought people wouldn't want photo albums that have our name and we » READ MORE

How to Make Wineglass Stem Markers

By DIY Maven

Wineglass stem markers are an easy and fast little item to fabricate. Supplies are minimal, which means they’re inexpensive. Great for gift giving as well as wedding favors, you might want to make a bunch.

Supplies

Memory wire (This is the secret of making stem markers. You can find memory wire at your favorite craft store in the beading aisle. It comes in coils as well as split rings. I found, since I was going to make several dozen markers, the » READ MORE

How to bogart wedding favors and what to do with them after you get them.

By DIY Maven

A great way to bogart wedding favors is to enlist the help of a groomsman. They seem to be able to talk unsuspecting female guests to fork over their free gifts. (If you’ve seen Wedding Crashers, you’ll know what I’m talking about.)

Another good tactic, if you don’t know anybody at the wedding, is to sit at a dinner table with the fewest amount of guest. (Hey, you don’t know anybody anyway, so why sit with a bunch of strangers?) This way, » READ MORE

Assembling “It’s a Wonderful Life” Housewarming and Wedding Baskets

By DIY Maven

A few years ago, I heard Martha give a tutorial on how to assemble a housewarming gift based upon the basket given to George and Mary Bailey in "It’s a Wonderful Life." Basically, you find a lovely basket, fill it with decorative ‘grass’ and add a loaf of bread, a container of salt and a bottle of wine. You then write or print out in a fancy font the following:

Bread! That this house may never know hunger

Salt! That life may always have flav » READ MORE
