Utah Silo House
By DIY Maven
For those city folks who don't know what a silo is, it's a large, usually cylindrical structure used to store silage. What's silage? Stuff ruminators eat. What are ruminators? I'll let you chew on that for a while. However, this particular silo serves a different purpose altogether. » READ MORE
Couple Converts Church into Home
By DIY Maven![]()
A couple in Kyloe, Northumberland bought a historical church and Curblied it up. Big time. They chose to restore it rather than renovate it, which would have been much cheaper. As it is, the church maintains its churchiness but with a homey interior. (The only thing that kinda creeps me out is the cemetery in the front yard.) Here's a few pics, but you can see more on this page » READ MORE
The most unique & stylish hotel rooms you have ever seen.
By DIY Maven

We've all seen pictures of 'themed' hotel rooms before, but the Fox Hotel in Copenhagen has done something that should really set the standard for all those other ambiance-attempting options. What Fox did was enlist the help of 21 street artists, illustrators and graphic designers from all corners of the world. The result is a very unique and stylish collection of 61 rooms. Okay, so they aren't at theme-y as say an Arabian Nights room....I'll » READ MORE

Check this out...a 747-200, circa 1976, retired in 2002 and in 2006 was turned into a hostel. Located at the Arlanda, Sweden airport, the 25 room, 85 bed hostel has fully operational bathrooms--bigger and more comfortable than the typical airplane toilet.
Fun Fantastical Furniture
By DaiquiriDiva
This site may have been posted here once before, but it's one of my favorites and worth checking out again. Straight Line Designs, based in Vancouver, Canada, designs and builds Alice-in-Wonderland-esque pieces that are both fun and functional.
Bookcases stack haphazardly, like a giant tossed them into the air. Cabinets with names like "Oops" and "Boom" appear to have had run-ins with things wild and wonderful. Others, like Joined at the Hip » READ MORE
Cigarette Butt Artwork
By DIY Maven
Artist Tom Deininger has found a way to turn those unsightly cigarette butts that litter the globe into some extraordinary artwork. 'Filter Rabbit', pictured above, is made of just that: unraveled filters. Below is 'Shell', which was constructed of butts the artist found in parking lots near a beach in Rhode Island.

The Incredible Rotating Bathtub/Shower
By DIY MavenRon Arad, in conjunction with Teu-Co., has designed this utterly unique, prototype luxury bath item. It’s a combination bathtub/shower/art installation. Art installation, because of its aesthetic appeal and shower/bathtub because it performs both functions via rotation. Tub becomes shower and shower becomes tub with a 180 degree turn. Source.

Color Changing Paint
By DIY Maven
Eclipse is described as ‘a single event heat reactive basecoat’ that just happens to change color. It’s available in black to white and blue to white formulas, but the effects aren’t as limiting as those three colors suggest. Actually, the effects are endless, as you can integrate Eclipse with other colors. Right now the makers seem to be focused on the auto industry, but I can foresee home decor applications as well. Billy May’s Torn Lights
By DIY Maven
These walls looked sliced, if not delicately so. While, from inside, light pours like blood.
Seeing the fixtures naked takes something away from their mystery, but if your curiosity must be satisfied, go to Billy May’s website. Via.

The Weymouth Beach Sand Castle Hotel
By DIY Maven
In an effort to entice Brits to vacation at their own seaside resorts, sand sculptor Mark Anderson created a sand hotel on Weymouth Beach, UK. The hotel will be on display until July 27th. No word if you can actually book a ‘room’ in the giant sand castle, but if you’re really interested, your best bet is to contact LateRooms.com. Via Uncooped.

The Dry-Erase Refrigerator
By DIY Maven
Amana's new Jot refrigerator, which has a dry-erase door, is being marketed as the perfect spot to jot a note, but how fun to use--and reuse--your refrigerator door as a 'canvas'? At $649 MSRP, it's probably one of the more inexpensive refrigerators on the market. For more information, visit Amana.

30 of the Hippest Hotels in the World
By DIY Maven![]()
I have a theory that anyone who uses the word ‘hip’ isn’t, but since this list of the Top 30 Hip Hotels in 2008 is coming from Trend Hunter, I’ll suspend my belief this one time. As for me, I’d pass on my local FantaSuite and book a stay at Airstream Europe, which is in rural France, near Mirepoix. For the entire top 30 list with links, visit Trend Hunter.

How to Make a Button Necklace
By threadbangerThese little buttons always seem to collect from events, gifts, political races, concerts, and such. Do you ever do anything with them besides let them sit around the house? Put them to use! Here, Threabanger forum member Mama Sass shows us how to take the buttons and turn them into a far-out necklace. Thanks so much to Mama Sass for teaching us how to do this, and to Making Stuff: An Alternative Craft Book. For more information, check out » READ MORE
The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Sofa
By DIY Maven![]()
The Hyde Sofa, which is the creation of design students Pablo Crespo and Martin and Isaac Franzene Pinerio, has what might be called a multiple personality disorder. In the daylight, the sofa is uninspired, gray and boxy; but at night, it lights up, taking on a vivacious personality. Snaps for creativity and literary reference on this one. Via.

Unique and beautiful uses for Velcro
By DIY MavenAlthough Velcro is generally thought of as a utilitarian–albeit noisy–fastener, Luis Eslava saw the hook and loop as a sort of art medium. In vibrant red, it makes a gorgeous lampshade.

In classic white, it makes one interesting room divider.

Mixko Design Mashups
By DIY Maven![]()
As of today, Mixko is my new favorite place to be inspired. Design Crack sort of puts it this way: they’re into design mashups. They see things where others don’t. A whistle becomes a chair; a key from a key board becomes a stool; a deflated basketball becomes a serving bowl. Perusing their site should come with a warning, however. Once you do, you may never look at any object the same way ever again.
