How To: Four Lives of a Modern Side Table
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Good thrifting advice is to go ahead and buy a piece if it stands out from the ordinary. What stood out about this table? The legs. Modern, sleek, solid wood and sturdy. The supports are also solid and can be used again, I'm sure. The table tops are a composite wood covered with formica and a plastic band around the edges. See three more very different looks you can get with this $6.99 Goodwill table. » READ MORE
Tables Made out of Recycled Car Hoods
By DIY Maven
What Joel Hester can do with his welder and an old car hood is nothing less that remarkable. Rusty, discarded metal hoods are cleaned, buffed and clear-coated to preserve the aforementioned rust, which looks much better in this application rather than, say, hiding the engine of a 1987 Honda Civic.

Weekend Project: Disappearing Trap Door Pool Table
By Doug Aamoth
Summer's over, the kids are back in school, and weekends are starting to slow down a bit, right? So why not take the weekend to dig yourself a giant rectangular enclosure right in the middle of your living room, add a big lifting mechanism, and drop in a nice pool table?
I have no idea how hard it'd be to set up a system like this, but I'm pretty sure you'd want to know what's directly below the floorboards and be confident that you'd » READ MORE
A couple cool things I spotted inside a Japanese recycling center
By Doug Aamoth
Just got back from Japan on a tour with Panasonic to see some of the company's eco-friendly initiatives. While inside one of their recycling plants, I spotted this cool table made from a washing machine drum. This particular recycling plant handles home appliances like refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, and television sets. They're able to recycle more than half of the materials in each appliance back into new appliances. This ta » READ MORE

This particular one comes from Retro-Tech in the UK and features a Blu-ray DVD drive, connections for your HDTV, a 19-inch wide angle touchscreen LCD monitor, and a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse set. Everything's protected under 6mm of "toughe » READ MORE
Simple $70 table and magazine rack combo
By Doug AamothHere's a relatively straight-forward concept; a small table with a built-in magazine rack. It's perfect for, well, reading magazines! I'm no table expert but I'm guessing you could use this for other things too, like "eating" or "supporting objects" -- sky's the limit, really. Here's the product description from Amazon.com's web site,
"The Sutton Magazine Table by Adesso, joins a black metal magazine rack with powder coated steel base and te » READ MORE
Make a cool sink out of a $50 Ikea table
By Doug Aamoth
Looking for an inexpensive way to build one of those cool sinks-in-a-table? This might be right up your alley.
IkeaHacker.com has a great piece on how to turn a $50 Ikea table (The Bevkam Kitchen Cart) into a fashionable bathroom sink.
The process involved using a sabre saw to cut a whole in the top part of the cart before assembling it. Once assembled, the cart was stained dark brown and waterproofed.
Then, a sink and faucet from one of Home Depo » READ MORE
Urban steps it up a notch
By beccajoNew from Urban Outfitters, some mod furniture offerings!

The LULU chair, in a brown bird print or green leaf. $380 plus $80 shipping, not bad for less than $500!
Next up, Jonathan Adler knock offs (good ones at that!).

Super cute lamps! Owl, $24, and horse, $36.
I'd for sure go with a plain lampshade...although the birdies are cute, it'd be a little *too* much if you ask me.
And lastly....some Danish Modern Knockoffs!

Table Legs
By SpiffyJennyIf I were to want to repair, restore, or design a mid-century inspired table, where would I get the legs? I am trying to see if I can serve a need that is larger than mine...
