Build a Folding Table

By DIY Maven

created at: 2009-11-06

A folding table can come in very handy. This little fellow comes to us from Handy Man Wire, who says that it can be constructed out of any wood of your choosing. (Because the maker is using his table on a porch, he built it out of cedar. Stainless steel and brass hardware was chosen for the same reason.) Since you can make it in an afternoon or so, it would be the perfect weekend project. Here's your shopping list!

The Agua Table...Or, How To Make Giant Cardboard Stones.

By Chrisjob

created at: 2009-10-06

At first glance, The Agua Table by Brazilian designer Domingos Tótora seems to be a take on the Noguchi coffee table using some perfectly round stones to balance the glass top. But, check out the process photos to see how this base was created from recycled cardboard and glue.

I'm totally making some. How-to to follo » READ MORE

Part of Design Sponge's recent before and after series was this chalkboard table. Kate and her partner found the wooden table on craigslist for 75 bucks. Making a table from birch logs

By JudithDial

birch log side tableThis how-to really interested me as we have several birch trees we've been contemplating taking down in the yard AND I still need side tables for the livingroom. No storage, but otherwise, I think they're great.

Pointclickhome had this write up about turning a bundle of wood into an attractive, reasonble side table. I'm amazed at the ingenuity of the city dwellers in finding their wood at the flower market. Much cheaper than Conran's $2,000. » READ MORE

Curbly Video Quick Tip: Create a Crosscut Sled on the Cheap.

By Chrisjob

created at: 2009-07-06

The table saw is the most versatile option for the DIYster, equally successful at making rip cuts (with the grain) and crosscuts (across the grain). When making crosscuts, it's much better to rely on support which holds the workpiece at a 90-degree angle to the blade, rather than the rip fence, which is parrallel to the blade.

Enter the crosscut sled, an extremely easy homemade option for safe and accurate crosscuts on any table saw. This option » READ MORE

Interactive Ping Pong Table/Virtual Aquarium.

By Chrisjob

pingpongplus.jpg

Craig Wisneski, Julian Orbanes, Ben Chun and Professor Hiroshi Ishii from MIT were quite busy. Ten years ago, they created PingPongPlus, an enhanced version of the classic game that "features a "reactive table" that incorporates sensing, sound, and projection technologies. Projectors display patterns of light and shadow on the table; bouncing balls leave images of rippling water; and the rhythm of play drives accompanying music and visuals » READ MORE

Vintage Doors into Tabletops?

By charlo

I have these two beautiful vintage doors. I want to turn them into tabletops.

created at: 2009-06-30

I have most of it figured out. The legs will come from here: http://www.tablelegsonline.com/shop/20-htype-legs-p-361.html?cPath=8_289

What I'm unsure of is how to finish the top. I don't want to use a slab of glass laid over. I'd like to do some version of using lacquer, glaze, finish of some sort to create a thick, clear finish that makes the surface flat (ie. fills i » READ MORE

The DIY Light Table.

By Chrisjob

Viewing slides, tracing artwork, exposing photo emulsion for screenprinting, as a background for photography special effects...I can think of myriad reasons one could use a light table. And, with these instructions from DIYPhotography, it's a totally reasonable weekend project.

The DIY Photography Light Table - A Weekend Project

"The idea behind the light table is simple. Things look really great if the light is passing through them. As opposed to light being reflected off them. This is why slid » READ MORE

Frame that turns into a table.

By DIY Maven

Perfect for small spaces, the Picturetable from Verena Lang goes from frame to table in about a second. It looks like those fabulous side supports are slipped into and out of holes drilled into the legs when they are extended. For a DIY attempt I'm thinking 1/4" rod banged into 45 degrees at the ends. A piano hinge on the bottom and two smaller ones for the legs....hmmmm.
